Chris Dietz of Listowel Golf Club shot 73 (+2) to win overall low gross at the Brian Wise Spring Classic at Whispering Hills Golf Club.
Dietz, who was celebrating his 50th birthday, has been receiving prizes at Whispering Hills since he was a very young junior golfer. More recently, he was the champion of the club’s 2016 Fall Field Day tournament last September.
While Dietz currently plays out of Listowel Golf Club, his father Leroy is a long-time member of Whispering Hills and was a very close personal friend of the late Brian Wise.
Leroy Dietz and Brian Wise played countless rounds of golf together, just about every Friday of the golf season, and always shared a cart when they went out.
This year’s Spring Classic, played on Saturday, was the club’s 41st under the club ownership of the Day Family. However, it is now the fourth spring opening day tournament without Brian Wise. The Spring Classic was renamed the “Brian Wise Spring Classic” in 2014.
The 2016 Spring Classic Champion, Luke Cowen of Pike Lake, came in 2nd place this year, 2 shots behind Dietz, with a score of 75.
