Kelly Zhao of Station Creek Golf Club (North), a facility northeast of Richmond Hill, won the Ontario Bantam (Under 15) Girls’ Championship and a 12-year-old golfer from a BruceGreySimcoe club finished 6th.
Zhao, who is from Toronto, shot 68-72 to claim her title.
Reflecting on the championship win, Zhao said “I feel great, I mean this is a once in a lifetime opportunity!,” she told Golf Ontario.
“In comparison to yesterday, today’s round was steady with a few ups and downs. The last hole was more challenging today, as my putt pulled a 360 out of the cup for a tough bogey”.
Heading home with her gold, Zhao is looking forward to off-season training and the 2021 championship season.
The top golfer from the BruceGreySimcoe region was 12-year-old Michelle Xing of National Pines Golf Club near Barrie.
She shot rounds of 74-75 and was 6th.
The only other golfer from the region in the event - Kylie Ruston of Midland Golf and Country Club - shot 84-88 and was 31st.
The championship was played at Cambridge Golf Club Aug. 31-Sept. 1.
