Barrie's Branson Ferrier finishes 2nd

Eason wins Ontario Open

Winner Gregory Eason with the Ontario Open trophy.

Branson Ferrier of Barrie made a valiant attempt to catch leader Gregory Eason of Kissimmee, Florida but came up just short at the Ontario Open, which was held at Woodington Lake Golf Club in Tottenham.

Ferrier fired a final round 66 (-5) and finished in 2nd place, just two strokes behind Eason.

Eason carded a final-round 70 and finished with a -5 total.

“I’m ecstatic. I haven’t won much as a pro so far, so this is huge for me,” he told Golf Ontario.

“I had a few great rounds that I hope I can continue to produce in later tournaments, but at this very moment I’m just going to appreciate this while I can. This is special.”

Besides Ferrier, there were three other golfers from BruceGreySimcoe who made the cut.

Drew Nesbitt of Horseshoe Valley shot rounds of 76-74-69 and finished 8th, Michael Ikejiani of Minesing, an amateur, carded rounds of 73-81-75 and tied for 46th and Terry O’Brien of Barrie went 75-79-78 and was 56th.

The Ontario Open dates back to 1923 and past winners include golfing greats Sam Snead, Moe Norman, George Knudson and Nick Weslock.

The tournament was resurrected this year after a long absence from the golf scene.
