It was a record-breaking closing day for the Saugeen Senior Men’s Golf League. Sunny skies, warm temperatures and a gentle breeze allowed 132 players to enjoy a beautiful afternoon on Legacy/Sunset. Thanks to Mike Pellerin and his crew, golf course conditions were spectacular.

Thirty three teams played a four-player scramble. Scores ranged from 62 to 71. Ties were broken by retrogression from SS9. The first two teams with 62 were Paul Zorzi, Peter Forth, John Morrell and Wayne 'Scrappy' Rourke. In 2nd place, Stig, Dave Hoy, John Scott and Bob Clarence. Two teams with 63 were Ed Braun, John Skinner, Brent Jennings and Larry Schafer followed by Ted Sinfield, Tom Mather, Jim Fleming and John Falkingham. There were six teams tied at 64. In total, 10 teams received prizes.

In the team game of Longest Putt for a Birdie from on the green - Leg 1 - Team Dunlop, Leg 3 - Team Roop, Leg 9 - Team Stig, SS 3 - Team Dudgeon, SS 6 - Team Wrightson.

Finally, from all reports, our 2018 season was the most successful ever. This would not have been possible without your participation and support. We thank you and look forward to seeing you all in the Spring.

Have a safe, healthy and enjoyable winter.

Men’s League
Men's Night Closing - September 9, 2018
Men's night closing was a great party to end the year! Everyone who participated had a great time, but the best time may have been had by John Torrossian, who fought off the wind and was able to stick it close on hole #5 Sunrise after the round to win a 2019 MEMBERSHIP thanks to Molson's. Many others tested their luck on the Port Elgin Home Hardware and Rowland’s Independent "sharpshooter" event and risked a $100 gift certificate to potentially win an extra $100 gift certificate with little success - the smart choice was to keep the $100 gift certificate.
Thanks to everyone who participated - Men's night is excited to have an even better 2019 season!

Senior Men’s Club Championship

The Senior Club Championship tournament was held on August 28 and 29 at the Southampton Golf and Country Club with several previous winners in the field and looking to repeat as Senior Champion in 2018.  In the A-fight, after the first round of play, Bruce Towner had the low round of the day as he carded an 83 and took the lead into day two.  Derryl Urstadt and Louis Bezaire were only one stroke back with scores of 84, and so the second day of play would be critical.  In the B-flight, John Hale took the lead into the second day of play with a great score of 87 while previous multiple Senior Club Champion Mike Pitzen and Larry Curtis were four strokes back with scores of 91.

In the C-flight, Rod Chisholm had a great round of 84 to take the early lead, with Fabian Libbus in second spot with a 90.  Peter Day and Charlie Schmalz tied for the lead in the D-flight with scores of 88.  Bill Hatt was still in the game with a score of 94. And in the E-flight, Peter Welford was in the lead with a score of 100 after day 1, with Bill Thomson and Tom Bailey tied for second spot with scores of 101.

On the second day of play, in the E-flight, Welford had a super game and shot 91 to win First Low Gross in the flight with a two day total of 191.  Bill Thomson and Tom Bailey tied for First Low Net with net scores over the two days of 147.  In the D-flight, Peter Day shot 96 and won First low Gross with a two day total of 184.  Barrie Robson took Second Low Gross with a total of 195.  Charlie Schmalz won First Low Gross in the flight with a net score of 148.

In the C-flight, on day two, Rod Chisholm continued his good play, scoring a 91 and winning First Low Gross in the flight.  Fabian Libbus won Second Low Gross with a two day total of 187 while Doug Hamilton won First Low Net in the flight with a net score of 147 for the two days.  In he B-flight, Mike Pitzen shot 81 on the second day of play and won first Low Gross with a two day total of 172.  Larry Curtis and John Hale tied for First Low Net with net scores of 151.

In the A-flight, the battle was on for the overall Club Championship.  Louis Bezaire had a decent round of 88 but two players turned it on and after the second day of play, Bruce Towner and Derryl Urstadt were tied for first place with two-day totals of 166.  A sudden death playoff between the two friends was required.  Both players tied on the first hole of play, but on hole #2, the match would be decided.  Both players were on the green putting for a par.  Urstadt made his putt while Towner lipped out, and the tournament was decided.

Congratulations to Derryl Urstadt, the 2018 Senior Club Champion and to Bill Hatt who won the Low Net Championship for the field with a two day net score of 141.
