Barrie CC junior wins silver medal

Michael Ikejiana of Barrie Country Club (pictured above) finished 2nd and claimed the silver medal at the Ontario Juvenile (Under 17) Boys Championship.

After shooting rounds of 74-72-71 he was tied with Ethan Cardwell of Oshawa Golf and Country Club - the host club for the championship.

But Cardwell, who shot 69-76-72, prevailed in the five-hole playoff to claim the victory.

Cardwell felt his knowledge of the course was a huge advantage for him in the championship and played a few risky shots during the playoffs, but got away with it due to his knowledge of the greens.

Cardwell was extremely proud to have won at his home course with family, friends, and fellow members here to support him.

“It was pretty special. I’ve never heard a roar like that in junior golf before,” he told Golf Ontario.

“I got pretty excited being on the 18th green and having hundreds of members here, family members, and players in the tournament here supporting me. It was an awesome experience.”

This was Cardwell’s last tournament of the season as he heads to training camp for the Saginaw Spirit in Michigan in two weeks. He is looking forward to having a successful 1st OHL season this year and said he’ll be back for more golf next golf season.

Three other golfers from the BruceGreySimcoe region competed at the championship.

Connor Logan of Mad River Golf Club shot 73-78-72 and tied for 6th, Lucas Ross of Midland Golf and Country Club shot 82-77-80 and tied for 36th and Jack Alward of Batteaux Creek Golf Club shot 78-82-79 and also tied for 36th.
