Three courses in Top 100

ScoreGolf recently released its list of the Top 100 courses - public and private - in Canada and three courses from the BruceGreySimcoe region are on the list.

And all three of the courses have improved their rankings from 2016 when the previous list was released.

Making the biggest jump was Mad River Golf Club, a private club in Creemore designed by Bob Cupp.

The 18-hole gem climbed from 81st in 2016 to 48th.

Cobble Beach Golf Links, a public course near Owen Sound, moved from 62nd in 2016 to 52nd.

Among public courses included in the rankings, Cobble was rated 19th best in Canada.

The Doug Carrick design has won numerous awards including Best New Course in Ontario when it opened in 2007.

The third BGS course making the list was the Georgian Bay Club, a private club near Clarksburg.

The Michael Hurzdan design moved up from 71st in 2016 to 58th in the current rankings.

According to a 2017 Golf Canada/PGA of Canada facilities report there are 2,051 18-hole equivalent golf courses in Canada. That means being on the Top 100 list puts you in the country’s top 4.875 percentile.

In other words, this is not an easy list to make.

Once again, the number one course in Canada is Cabot Cliffs, a Bill Core/Ben Crenshaw design in Inverness, Cape Breton.
