Local golfers compete in champions event

Several BGS golfers in top 20

Local golfers compete in champions event


Club champions from across Ontario competed today (May 14) at Spring Lakes Golf Club in Stouffville and several golfers from BruceGreySimcoe finished in the top 20.

The best result was turned in by Aart Van Veld of Borden Golf Club who shot 73 on the East Course and tied for 6th in the Senior Men’s Champion of Champions event.

Steve Irving of Legacy Ridge Golf Club, Michael Jackson from Georgian Bay Club (shown in photo above) and John Murphy from Barrie Country Club all shot 75 and tied for 15th.

Ken Dunlop of Saugeen Golf Club shot 86 and tied for 61st while Danny Cook of Blue Mountain Golf & Country Club and Randy King of Pike Lake Golf Centre shot 89 and tied for 66th.

The winner was Chris Kertsos of York Downs Golf and Country Club who shot 68 (-4).

In the Men’s Champion of Champions event, Steve Knoch of OslerBrook Golf & Country Club was the top BGS golfer with a 76 that put him in a tie for 16th.

Phil Carleton of Legacy Ridge GC fired 79 and tied for 36th.

The other results from BGS golfers were:
T-42nd Michael Ikejiana of Barrie CC (81)
T-42nd Kurt Wilson of Blue Mountain G & CC (81)
T-48th Brandon Rumph of Pike Lake (83)
56th - Rob Town of Hawk Ridge Golf Club (91)

The winner was David Lang of the Donaldo Club who shot 68 (-4).

In the Senior Women’s event, Sheila McLaren of Barrie CC was the top golfer from BGS. She shot 89 and was 20th.

Kathie Houghton of Georgian Bay Club shot 90 and tied for 21st.

The winner was Gail Pimm of Whitevale Golf Club who 75.

In the Women’s champion event, the winner was Mary Ann Hayward of St. Thomas Golf and Country Club who shot an even-par 71 on the south course.

Chiara Turner of National Pines Golf Club near Barrie shot 104 and was 27th.
